John S. Kamis
John Kamis leads the Firm's public policy efforts in Illinois. He is a recognized expert in legislative and regulatory affairs, government budgeting, procurement, and political campaigns.
John has significant policy and government experience. Before joining the Firm, he served in Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's Administration as Senior Advisor for Economic Development and Legislative Affairs. In that role, John oversaw Budgeting for Results, the Governor's performance-based budgeting initiative, and the Governor's Economic Recovery Commission. John also managed the legislative agendas of the Administration's economic development agencies, negotiating and passing legislation designed to spur economic development in Illinois.
Prior to serving in the Governor's Office, John worked for the City of Chicago as an Assistant to the Mayor in the Mayor's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. In that role, John lobbied the Illinois General Assembly on behalf of the Mayor's Office.
In addition to his work in government, John has extensive political campaign experience. He served as Governor Quinn's campaign manager in the 2010 primary, worked on Mayor Richard M. Daley's 2007 campaign, the Gore Presidential campaign, and has advised dozens of other campaigns at every level throughout Illinois.
In 2014, John was named to the Crain's Chicago Business "40 Under 40" list of people who have reached the top of their fields before their 40th birthday. He was also selected as an Edgar Fellow, a leadership program developed by Governor Jim Edgar and the University of Illinois for emerging leaders throughout Illinois.
John is also a Co-Founder and Board member of Innovation Illinois, a nonpartisan public education and issue advocacy organization promoting progressive policies to support economic growth and equal opportunity in the State of Illinois.
John was appointed by Governor Quinn to serve on the Budgeting for Results Commission. John's volunteer activities have also included the Clinton Global Initiative, Illinois Housing Task Force, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Chicago.
